Introduction to Infant and Toddler Teaching
Infant and toddler teaching must be based on a relationship approach that is responsive and facilitates quick development. The attachment theory focuses on the importance of warm and constant relationships that create emotional security and allow exploration (Bowlby, 2010). The sociocultural theory emphasizes learning based on social interaction, mutual playing as well as communication with trusted grown-ups (Vygotsky, 1978). Other methods, including Pikler and RIE, also encourage respectful unhurried caregiving, and gives the child autonomy by free movement (Gerber, 2013).
